The Foreman, Highway Maintenance Operations, under the direction of the General Superintendent, will oversee staff and the proper allocation of resources to ensure work is being performed according to established standards. The Foreman, Highway Maintenance Operations, must possess a valid Class 1 or 3 Driver’s licence, proven knowledge of Provincial transportation specifications and five+ years of experience in the highway maintenance industry.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure all employees comply with applicable legislation, including safe operation of machinery, drivers’ hours of service and occupational health and safety regulations
  • Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards
  • Oversee staff to ensure work is being performed according to established performance criteria
  • Provide employee training, ensuring that all applicable compliance requirements are met
  • Develop strategic area-specific performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals
  • Coordinate activities by allocating resources, scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly
  • Ensure procedures for inspection and preventative maintenance of vehicles are upheld
  • Inspect road condition reports and track performance
  • Analyse departmental operations and identify areas requiring improvement
  • Ensure that safe work practices are being followed

The ideal candidate has the following:  

  • Three years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in the Highway Maintenance industry
  • Valid Class 1 or 3 Drivers Licence and clean record
  • Proven experience with resource management
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of direct reports
