Rip Rap Aggregates

Rip rap aggregates are a great protective barrier for sloped surfaces. This is because the rocks used in this protective barrier have many different sizes, from four inch to two foot stones. The size of the rock needed on a project depends upon how long the slope or steepness is and how fast water is moving. Rip rap aggregates are a great option to use when wanting a natural-looking solution to erosion and scour problems.

To find out how many cubic yards of rip rap you need for your shoreline needs, measure the length and width of the area that needs to be covered. Multiply the length and width measurements together, then multiply this number by 0.76. The resulting figure is equal to roughly how many cubic yards you will need for your shoreline project.

Class 1 rip rap has been broken into smaller sizes of no greater than four inches.

Class 2 rip rap has been broken into pieces of larger than four inches, but smaller than 12 inches in diameter.

Class 3 rip rap has been broken into pieces larger than 12 inches, but smaller than 24.

Class 4 rip rap has been broken into pieces greater than 24 inches.
